Swim
- The training schedule is to be adhered to.
- Swimming caps issued by the organiser must be worn.
- Wearing the race number under the swim suit is not allowed.
- Wetsuits are obligatory up to a water temperature of 16°C. The wetsuit must be taken off completely in the transition tent and not before. The athlete him/herself must put it into the clothing bag. To avoid the mixing up or loss of the wetsuit please write your name on the bag.
- Only official boats (for rescuing and adjudicating purposes) are allowed on the race course.
Bike
- Leaving or shortening the bike course for the own advantage is not allowed.
- On the whole bike course the Norwegian traffic regulations are valid.
- Cycling without a hard shell helmet that meets TÜV, CE, SNEL, or ANSI standards is forbidden on the whole course. The chinstrap must be fastened at all times.
- The chinstrap must be fastened as long as the athlete is in contact with the bike. Only from this point on the athlete is allowed to cycle.
- The athlete may unfasten the chinstrap and take off the helmet only after having passed the line back into the transition area. After this line he/she must push their bike!
- Each athlete must wear his/her start number on his/her back. Race belts are allowed.
- Athletes are allowed to repair their bikes only with their own tools as well as replacement parts. There will be no service team on the course.
- The frame-start number must be fixed in such a way on the bike that it can be seen from both sides. Otherwise it must be readable from the left side. A reduction in the size of the start number is strictly forbidden.
- The helmet number has to be stuck on the front of the helmet.
Run
- It is forbidden to leave the run course or take a short cut.
- Athletes are not allowed to be helped by persons or cars throughout the whole run course.
- iPods, MP3-Players and mobile phones (earphones) are forbidden during the whole race.
- If you are assisted or aided by someone or when breaking any rules on the run course, a stop and go penalty (1 minute) will be issued. This penalty can be issued several times and is independent from penalties on the bike course.
- The race number must be worn visibly on the front side.
Disqualification rules
In order to prevent athletes from drafting, the IRONMAN 70.3 Norway/Hagesund has issued the following rules:
- First warning will be issued in case any rules are broken by calling out your race number – no penalty.
- Marshals who catch you at a second irregularity (e.g. drafting) will issue a penalty (e.g. time-penalty) by calling out your race number and at the same time showing you the yellow card. Note that this penalty may already be issued at the first instance of an irregularity occuring. Race marshals may issue penalties to a whole group at once.
- Then you must stop at the penalty box – located in the transition area – from bike to run. Your start number will be crossed through and the race marshal will execute a 6 minutes penalty.
- If the athlete does not reach the penalty-box she/he will be disqualified.
- In case the athlete leaves the penalty-box without having been granted official release of the referees, she/he will be issued with an additional penalty of 15 minutes.
- Generally, being warned twice (on the bike course) means being disqualified. But race marshals might as well disqualify directly.
- A minimum distance of 10 m must be kept to the cyclist in front of you.
- Blocking rule: The race marshals will warn you if you leave the right lane for longer than 30 seconds. You should leave the right lane only when overtaking (Exception: damages of the lane). The overtaken athlete has to fall back 10m as soon as the overtaking athlete’s front wheel passes him. Only then the athlete himself may start to overtake. Overtaking on the right hand side will result in immediate disqualification.
- ATTENTION: The race marshals have the right to punish any irregularity at once. The disqualification list will be hung out at the Ask-Me-stand in the IRONMAN City.
- No protest is permitted against time penalty/disqualification because of drafting and blocking.
- iPods, MP3-Players and mobile phones (earphones) are forbidden during the whole race.
General
- The rules of the Norwegian Triathlon Federation shall apply.
- Each athlete is responsible for his/her own intermediate and end time registration. The Champion Chip must be worn throughout the entire race around your right ankle.
- Running and cycling without a top (singlet, shirt) is forbidden. The top must cover both shoulders and the chest must be fully covered as well (zip not opened too wide).
- Start numbers may not be reduced in size or altered in any way.
- Protests may only be submitted in writing and must be accompanied by a deposit of NOK 170 according to the sport regulations.
- From CheckIn to CheckOut only athletes, adjudicators, officials, doctors, rescue and security personnel and accredited journalists are allowed to enter the transition area on race day.
- Material prizes which are not collected on the day of the awards ceremony are forfeited.
- The organisers reserve the right to reject applications for reasons important to them.
- Competitors disqualified because of evident fraud will not be allowed to start at the IRONMAN 70.3 Norway/Hagesund for the next 2 years.
- Protest: The time to protest ends 30 minutes after finishing. The protest has to be handed in written to the marshall director at this time.
